Frequently Asked Questions
Every project comes with its own challenges, schedules, and requirements.
Do you handle both commercial and residential work?
Yes. Our primary focus is large-scale commercial construction such as multi-family housing, schools, municipal facilities, retail centers, and HUD- or CHFA-funded developments.
We also take on residential-commercial upgrades and full remodels that require licensed expertise, including:
- Service panel replacements
- Whole-home generator installations
- EV charger systems for single and multi-unit properties
We don’t take small repair calls or single-outlet fixes. Every residential project we accept is managed to the same professional and compliance standards as our commercial work.
What size or type of projects do you specialize in?
Most of our work falls within large-scale developments where timelines and inspection schedules are critical. That includes:
- TI (Tenant Improvement) build-outs, 100+ unit apartment complexes, and mixed-use buildings
- Schools and educational facilities
- Municipal and public safety buildings
- Retail plazas and shopping centers
- Historical renovations under local or federal preservation oversight
Projects of this scale often span 12 to 25 months. Our crews are built to stay consistent throughout the job with little to no turnover or disruption.
Are you licensed for all types of electrical work?
Yes. LJ Electric holds an unlimited electrical license in the State of Connecticut, covering all work except utility-scale systems.
We’re fully insured, OSHA-certified, and registered as a state and federal apprenticeship provider. Our crews complete mandatory continuing education every year to stay current with code updates and industry standards.
Do you install or service solar systems?
No. We specialize in traditional electrical contracting, not solar or photovoltaic systems.
Our focus is on dependable, code-compliant wiring, power distribution, life safety systems, and large-scale electrical infrastructure. When renewable components tie into a project, we coordinate with the installer while keeping our scope clear and compliant.
How do you handle scheduling and coordination on multi-trade projects?
Clear communication keeps large projects on track. Our team coordinates directly with site superintendents, project managers, and other trades to stay aligned with build schedules and inspection milestones.
- Crews arrive registered, trained, and ready to work
- Inspection phases are pre-planned to prevent downtime
- Any issues with drawings or specs are flagged early for resolution
That approach keeps drywall, HVAC, and finishing trades moving without electrical delays holding up the site.
Do you work on government-funded or HUD/CHFA projects?
Yes. We have long-standing experience with federally funded and HUD/CHFA-financed housing developments. These projects come with unique requirements and strict oversight, and our record of clean inspections and documentation makes us a trusted partner for developers and municipalities alike.
What kind of safety and quality programs do you follow?
Every electrician on our team completes OSHA and NFPA 70E safety training. We also maintain certifications for CPR, scissor lift operation, and fire alarm installation.
Beyond compliance, our safety standards come from decades of doing things right — maintaining clean work sites, using proper PPE, and ensuring that every apprentice is fully registered before stepping onto a project.
What makes LJ Electric different from other contractors?
Consistency and accountability. Many contractors can wire a building, but few can maintain momentum on an extended build while keeping inspections and budgets aligned.
We build long-term relationships with general contractors because we follow through on our agreements. Our crews stay until the work is complete, and we deliver what was promised without excuses and missed deadlines.
